A Memory of Sanderstead.

I remember. ... long bending corridors. Miss Skinner, the best teacher I ever had. I became an English teacher and taught Shakespeare as drama: the way she had inspired me. Mrs Pudney putting two red lines through my English holiday work, tearing the paper... Miss Queen telling me I was too stupid to take optional Greek... but Miss Durante and the choirs, the plays, debates, festivals, discussing politics with Miss Noblett Geography: arguing morality all afternoon in civilised discussion with Sister Gabriel before being excused Mass & RK .. the breadth and scope of the education I received is nowadays only a memory, and not granted to the young today.
I was Maria Trotter then: so long ago. And so lucky, overall....

Hi Maria. Loved reading your memories! You may not remember me, but my name is Tessa, and we used to travel home on the same train from St. Annes at the end of the school day. It was a pretty good start to a life, wasn't it? I've ended up round the other side of the world, but was pleased to see a familiar name on this page.
