More about this scene

Some people may not agree with Pevsner's description of the interior of St Michael's as being 'uninspiring'. The font is Norman and is said to have been 'executed by one of the daughters of the late Rector'. The painting on the walls is expansive, and the monuments include one memorial to Lady Farrer, 1892, in Athenian style. She is seated in a chair, with the family standing opposite. A Jacobean brass of 1608 is also worthy of note.

Sandhurst Shops
Seeing the picture from Sandhurst Halt brings back good memories of my youth in the 60's. The shop in the centre was the newsagents where we would exchange R. Whites and Coronal bottles found on the building sites for sweets and fags! The small garage just past the newsagents was Thompsons, he sold air rifle pellets. Sandhurst Halt station was a wooden structure with a ticket office and waiting room which had a fantastic coal stove, very toasty on a winters day.

Sandhurst, Berkshire: Elsa Stone's Octagonal House.
In about 1945 my grandparents took me by bus (or train?) from Reading down to Sandhurst, shortly after the death of a distant cousin, Elsa Stone, who had had an octagonal house built during the 1920s. Simon's Well, Scotland Hill
My father was in the US Navy and stationed at Blackbush. We rented a wonderful place known as Simon's Well. It had big English roses, a garden with rubbarb and such. I attended Yately Hall. These times were the happiest memories of my childhood. I had a nanny named Rose and I taught her how to make popcorn. The only thing is, my instruction as a child on popcorn making was a bit off. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
