I remember attending this school. I remember the Polish children who came to school in their national dress. I also remember attending church Sunday School every Sunday. Also the 'mere' which would ice over in a bad winter when it would ice over and we kids would slide on the ice. I remember falling through and getting very wet and cold although I don't think it was very deep. We lived in an ICI tied house on an estate.
My grandmother used to be terrified of going down Dark Ark Lane, probably in the late 60s and 70s, whenever we went to Delamere Forest for family days out.
We first arrived in Sandiway in 1956. I remember getting off the bus at the top of Mere Lane and walking down towards our new home in Cherry Lane. The house was a 'tied house' belonging to the ICI and our tenancy of it was dependant on my father working at the ICI. My Grandparents Jack and Edna Williams ran The Blue Cap Hotel in Sandiway during my youth and my fondest memories are there, of Rooms 6 and 7, which would be allocated to my sister and I during our stays. There were garages out in the parking lot, one of which was turned into a temporary stable for my horse one summer.
