Sandiway, Cuddington Primary School. 1950's

A Memory of Sandiway.

I remember attending this school. I remember the Polish children who came to school in their national dress. I also remember attending church Sunday School every Sunday. Also the 'mere' which would ice over in a bad winter when it would ice over and we kids would slide on the ice. I remember falling through and getting very wet and cold although I don't think it was very deep. We lived in an ICI tied house on an estate.

The estate, now council-owned was set up by ICI for key workers but then allowed other workers to reside there I was a happy clean place and I enjoyed living there. Kennel Woods was near and we kids spent a lot of time playing there
I attended Cuddington Primary school from 1958 to 1964. It was a good time to be young, teachers were strict but fair. I loved playing cricket and Mr Gallimore, our teacher gave a lot of his time for practicing and playing cricket, eventually making the cheshire schools final against Victoria Road school, Northwich. I remember my first day there in Mrs Gorrah's class. I had a happy childhood growing up in Sandiway and going to Cuddington Primary school, I think we were very lucky to have been born at that time and living on the council estate in Manor Road and then in Ash Road.
