More about this scene
The tram lift saves a long, tiring climb to the top of the hill. An early form of people carrier, a charabanc, is parked towards the sea wall, while a double-decker bus has stopped to let the day-trippers alight. At the moment the tide is in, but later on the beach will be thronged with people.
