More about this scene
St Mary's is reputed to be the oldest church site in Devon. The church was rebuilt in 1861 and the tower went up in 1873 at a cost of £3,500 in memory of Bishop Philpott, who is buried in the churchyard. An attack by a lone German bomber on 30 April 1943 killed 26 people, most of whom were children.
