Lewis`s Beach Tea House (far right) was renowned for its cream teas. So popular did it become that on rainy days large canvas tarpaulins would be erected outside as awnings to keep the crowds dry. There was also the Better Hole, opened after World War I, which became the Fort Cafe in 1937.
