More about this scene
Sidmouth's sea wall was built in 1835, and has been strengthened subsequently. Currently, there are huge breakwaters built of boulders, which have been constructed in an effort to attenuate the scouring action of the water. Note the bathing costume worn by the lady just leaving the water.
