Heysham old village is an attractive place, with an assortment of stone cottages lining the streets.
The gathering rain clouds are no worry to the band, as the wooden shelter provides plenty of cover.
On the left, Shell and Exide petrol pumps, a sign for Park Drive cigarettes, and new-style windows fitted into dwellings indicate progress.
In the 1950s one of the latter was the weekly venue for the North Cheam Jazz Club, which featured a youthful George Melly and the Mick Mulligan Jazz Band as a regular attraction.
Typical of many older cottages in central Bedfordshire, the mixture of timber cladding, wattle and daub, tile and thatch gives The Barn a picture postcard look to be envied.
