More about this scene

The earliest tourists to the Lake District were overwhelmed by the 'horrid' and 'frightful' nature of the mountains and crags, which frowned down on them as they negotiated the passes. It was Wordsworth and the other Romantic poets who first instilled the idea that the Lakeland fells had their own beauty and attractions. Here, Grains Gill tumbles over a series of cascades beneath Stockley Bridge, near Seathwaite in Borrowdale, with Aaron Crags prominent on Seathwaite Fell in the background. The view is hardly changed today.
