More about this scene

Seven miles north of Tynemouth, the Hall was designed by Sir John Vanbrugh, and completed for Admiral George Delaval in 1707. Over the years the Hall has experienced its share of misfortune. The west wing was destroyed by fire in May 1752, though it was rebuilt to Vanburgh's original designs. In January 1822 the central block was badly damaged by fire; though time and money was spent reroofing it, it remained uninhabitable.
