My father bought the pig farm known as Woodley in Selsdon Vale in 1951. I was four. I attended Selsdon Primary school until I was eleven when I moved to Riddlesdown. I really treasure my childhood memories as I had so much fun. During school holidays I would go out with my dad in his lorry to collect the pigswill from hotels, hospitals, etc. From all the articles I've read about Selsdon no one ever mentions Selsdon Vale. My name then was Lesley Willers. Does anyone remember me?
I lived in Selsdon as a kid from 1964 - its my earliest memory. We lived in Benhurst Gardens, up the top of Old Farleigh Road. We were lucky as kids to have 'the Rec' as we called it, and the Bird Sanctuary very near to go an play. We also went to the stables at the Selsdon Park Hotel to ride the horses. Mum said shop on the left was the Express Dairy shop. Before Express Dairy it used to be a coffee shop, mum can't remember the name. Mum's name is Eve she was brought up in Selsdon in the 50's.
We came to Selsdon in 53 from Kenley. We lived at 18 Foxearth Road. In 56 I started at Selsdon primary, junior and senior school until seniors closed in I think 66 when we all went to Riddlesdown school which was a very early comp style school. I remember the united dairy and of course Sid Kings where for 3d you got 1 cigarette and a swan vesta match. I remember Good Neighbours pub being built and I think Mr ...see more
