More about this scene
The pretty village of Shackleford, west of Godalming, has a mixture of houses in different styles, as evidenced here by the creeper-clad building on the right, the tall-chimneyed cottages with their neatly trimmed hedges at the crossroads, and the weatherboard and brick barn on the right. These buildings were once part of the large estates belonging to the Middleton, Horne and Norney families, which were broken up and sold in the years following the Second World War.
