Rix And Co.
A Memory of Sheerness.
Hello,
Can anybody remember 'Rix & Co', Ironmongers and Upholsterers, of New Brompton and Sheerness??
I have a small round foot stool, dating from the early 1900's. While cleaning and treating it for bugs etc, I found the makers sticker on the underside. As above. It came from one of my Grandparents homes. They were born and raised in Chatham and Gillingham C1890's. Both their Fathers worked at Chatham Dockyards, as a Smith and a Carpenter respectively. I think that the stool actually came from Nan's home in Beresford Rd, Gillingham, as her younger sister lived there all her life. Pop's name was Lovering, and Nan's was Evens. They were Married in February 1919. Two children. When my Mum and her brother were young, they often went to Sheerness beach when visiting the rest of family.
Fingers crossed!
Colin L.
