More about this scene
The gaunt ruins of the Neville's castle built in the early 1380s dominate the skyline of the village of Sheriff Hutton, nine miles north of York. Originally built by Bertram de Bulmer, Sheriff of York in about 1140, the present castle was a favourite residence of Richard III, and it was later the home of the Duke of Richmond and Somerset, an illegitimate son of Henry VIII.
