More about this scene

This was once a place where sheep were washed in a stream (bourne), hence the name. Shipbourne is a very attractive open village with a large green. The compact church is Victorian, and was built in 1881 in the Early?English style. Christopher?Smart, the translator of Horace, was a native of Shipbourne. In Victorian times there was a working men's institute here.
