The Glade Winter 1962 1963
A Memory of Sidcup.
That was the winter we finally got to use our sledge. Every evening after school we'd traipse to The Glade where there was a natural amphitheatre of sorts and sledge down the steep incline. The Glade was lit so we could stay quite late and there were loads of children there.
The lake in front of the Rose Bruford College was frozen, so we could slide on that. All in all we had a brilliant time.
Throughout all those cold months and the deep snow I never remember school being closed. We were tougher then! I do recall those lethal ice slides in the playground - shone to perfection by children's shoes and built up by adding a little water. Great times
