Skegness, The Pier Hotel c.1955

More about this scene
The Pier Hotel (left of centre) opened in 1881, the same year as the pier on the other side of the road. The hotel is pictured here after its reconstruction in the 1950s. After a tragic fire in 1963 it was reduced in height by one floor. Pier Terrace, on the left, has not yet been converted to penny arcades. The large building on the right is the Imperial Café and Grosvenor House Hotel. Butlin's amusement park is in the foreground.
