More about this scene

The Snaefell Mountain Railway opened for traffic in August 1895. It operates on the Fell system, whereby a third rail is laid in the centre of the track. This is gripped by wheels that ensure the car stays on the rails, and by brake shoes that provide additional braking on the line's severe gradients. In 1897 a return trip up Snaefell from Laxey cost 2s return.
