More about this scene
The hall dates from the early 16th century, when Wymond Cary leased the estate from the Crown. Remodelled with gables in c1625, the hall passed to the Styleman family in 1710, who made many alterations. In 1877 the hall was sold again, and then began a chequered existence of rentals and military occupation in wartime. The last family to occupy the hall as their home between the 1930s and 70s were the Stricklands, notably General Sir Peter Strickland, the longest serving colonel of the Royal Norfolk Regiment. The Hall was sold after his widow's death in 1977 to become a Sue Ryder Home.
