First Years Of The Ockendon Estate
A Memory of South Ockendon.
I moved to Foyle Drive when there was only a few houses built. I lived across the road from the church and went to Ockendon Courts School from the first day it opened. I used to walk up to a Mr & Mrs Philips at North Stifford about five thirty in the morning to pick up papers to deliver to the estate, it was a long and heavy walk. Then on the evenings I used to sell papers to the site workers as they were getting on their buses. I used to sell ice-cream to them as well, I had two tubs as well as selling evening papers for Allan Hall. I used to sell Sunday papers at the Foyle Drive Green Line Stop.. good days. Also went to the Ockendon Courts School club in the evenings - good days.
