South Ockendon After The War

A Memory of South Ockendon.

My Name was Diana Pearce and my sister was Carole Pearce. My parents moved to South Ockendon just before I was born in 1948. I was born in a prefab on Foxglove crescent, whilst Belhus estate was being built.
We moved from the prefab to 140 Broxburn drive in a banjo as we called it, today it would be a cul-de-sac!

I lived there until I was 19 when I left to get married and live in Rainham.

I have very fond memories of growing up in Ockendon, playing at the Mardyke and falling in, getting the 370 bus into Ockendon where my parents (Fred and Iris) had a greengrocery stall by the slaughterhouse or going into Romford to visit my grandparents, walking to the park in Aveley, Carol singing in the flats in Broxburn drive, playing in the old air raid shelters by Foxglove crescent and shopping at Broxburn Parade.
I also cannot forget the long walk to the station and getting the train into Upminster, as I worked in London this was a daily event.

I cant remember name of primary school but I moved on to Culverhouse girls school, leaving in 1964 to work at fords in Aveley.
Love to hear from anybody who may remember me or my family.
