More about this scene
This is actually a combined wind and water mill. A smockmill with a weatherboarded tower, boat shaped cap and octagonal brick base, and powered by four patent shuttered sails and winded by a fantail, it was built beside a millpond; a waterwheel was added at the side of the base, which drove an additional pair of millstones. Auxiliary steam power was also provided from an outbuilding. Built in about 1829, it ceased working in 1923 and collapsed in 1977.
