15 Townsend Road

A Memory of Southall.

My name is Mike Mansell and i was born in 1944 in Balfour Road, we lived at 72. My mother's parents a Mr and Mrs Leach lived at 10 Balfour Road. In 1947 we moved to 15 Townsend Road.
I remember the ice cream shop at the top of the road,i enjoyed many ice creams from there. On the same side of the main road but the other side of Townsend Road was a sweet shop and pet shop. Once a week my mum would give me some sweet coupons and i would go and choose my sweets. I also frequented the pet shop and talked to the owner while looking at the pets, she was a very nice friendly lady.
I can remember one family who lived at 2 Townsend Road, they were Mr and Mrs Cheshire. They had two sons the eldest son i can't remember his name but the youngest son was David who i played with quite a lot.
When we moved to Townsend Road there was a toilet but no bathroom, so my dad got one of his brother's who was a plumber and together they converted the toilet and coal store into a bathroom. Oh Luxury!!
We moved to Harrow in 1952 and now i live in Kidlington, Oxford
