Both Sides Of Sduthall

A Memory of Southall.

I was born in the flats in Dudley road in 1947 my mum [joyce] always told me extremely hot summer and freezing cold winter used to play gasworks a lot my grandparents lived at the end of stoney lane inside the gates north cottage it was next to railway line for the shunters and behind there walled garden was the canal inlet my dad Charlie tich and my uncles sid and George also worked in gasworks I remember standing with all the family to watch the train carrying the king to Windsor also remember coronation party all the down the road started school at Dudley infants in 1954 I was sent away to a convalescence home called elmers court lymington next to the solent it was arranged by dr,pragnell who was in osterly park road almost opposite the library. when I came back home mum and dad had moved to the other side of town to faraday road off dormers wells lane .it was completely different we had a proper bathroom and inside toilet it was like living in countryside with snells farm behind us the golf links next to that and a big green where all the kids from the estate and the prefabs used to play together. I went to dormers wells juniors and on to the secondary modern school at the top of the lane. left school at 15 .
