Growing Up In Southall

A Memory of Southall.

I was born in 1950 and we lived with my mothers parents at 53 Burns Ave.
Their name was Clark, ours Lyon. I think neighbours were Knights.
I went to North Road infants, then Dormers Wells juniors as by then we had moved into the prefab estate, 2 Fleming Road. I can remember neighbours by the names of Shephard, who I think was a dustman, they lived in the cul de sac opposite, Guest who lived further down the road, Kimmins, Mead, Coleman.
I then went to Southall Grammer, which later joined with the boys tech.
We moved just around the corner to 20 Edison Drive when the prefabs were due to be demolished. I think a neighbour was Barton and had several sons. I remember buying cakes from Woodfords on the way home from school. I married in Holy Trinity, is it still there ?
Just down the end of Fleming was the Greenford Road, and a parade of shops. The greengrocer was owned by my friends parents, her name Joyce Brown. Also Sunday trips to the Bunny Park further towards Hanwell Bridge
Opposite Edison was a large playing field, I think the council later built a playground in the corner. Beyond that another parade if shops, I remember hardware shop on one corner, newsagents on the other, butchers and grocers in between.
I remember the long walk to high school, through alleys and then Southall park, over half hour, couldn't do it nowadays, but my dad needed his car for work.
I remember the carnivals, and then the events in the park, over weekends.
There are lots of memories of Southall, probably too many for here, I am getting together a file.
I left when I married and lived in Ealing, then North London, now on Isle of Wight. Not been back since about 1975, probably never will now.
