A Selection of Memories from Southall

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Southall

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

My parents, who came to England from India in 1955, when I was 3 months old, moved to Southall in 1959, from Whitton, when I was 4. I remember Southall Broadway at that time-there was actually a saddlery business there! C. Quinion, Saddlery! Hard to imagine such a thing today, but at that time I assume Southall was “in the sticks” and people could go riding. Mum and Dad first rented the upstairs at 43 Abbotts Road ...see more
Just a quick note to anyone who has lived in Southall but has moved to pastures new.........Southall gasometer Which has loomed over us since the 1930s was demolished in 2019 to make way for housing. It appeared in many films & T/V series and will be sadly missed.
Did any of you guys go to the weekly dances at featherstone Rd School? The regular band were called "Jeff & The Dreamers" I was in a band who played regularly in their break, we were called"The Avengers". (I think it was a dance it may have been a youth club) it was a long time ago the1960s. We also played at the Derley Rd youth club.
Hello all, My name is Steven Spennewyn. I grew up in Southall living in Dagmar Road being born in 1955. I went to Clifton Road Junior School and Dormers Wells Secondary Modern School. I have fond memories of Mr Ramsden at Clifton Road and long summer days playing at Osterley Park. It would be good to hear from anyone who remembers the Spennewyn family ? Email spennesr@icloud.com
