More about this scene
One of the finest medieval gateways in the country, Southampton's Bargate dates back to the late 12th century. Up until the 1930s specially designed trams travelled through Bargate, with dome-shaped tops to fit the arch. The adjoining walls and buildings were subsequently destroyed so that traffic bypassed Bargate.
