Southsea's long shingle beach is crowded with trippers. Not surprisingly, everyone in the picture is fully dressed. During the prim Victorian era, to discard even one item of clothing would have been unthinkable. Despite the shingle, patches of sand uncovered at low tide made the beach a popular attraction.
