Southwold, The Beach 1896

More about this scene
The beach is lined with numerous beach yawls; these did all the fetching and carrying for the cargo-carrying ships which plied the North Sea, as well as competing for lucrative salvage prizes when they foundered. Double-ended clinker-built boats with twin lugsails, they were capable of sailing at speed, an essential prerequisite for the job.
