More about this scene

The modern architecture sits very uncomfortably with the earlier buildings – an example is the Fine Fare building, which now houses Super Drug. However, in early 2004 the whole area looked like a builders' yard. The traffic islands and the roads were being replaced by a brick surface. It all had to be finished before the Tulip Parade in early May. The shops are still there, but all have changed owners. Penningtons and the Scotch Wool Shop (right) are now Boots, Martins Bank beyond is now Barclays, and the Co-op (beside Fine Fare) is now Stead & Simpson's. Shoefayre (left) is now Molson & Coakley (optometrists), and finally Sketchley (next door) is now Card Fair.
