Spilsby, Market Square c.1955

More about this scene
Spilsby got its market charter in 1302, a little later than Alford, and its centrepiece is the rectangular market place. In this view we look south-west towards the parish church with its fine green sandstone 15th-century tower. Its chief glory, however, is inside: the splendid medieval, Tudor and Jacobean tombs and effigies of the aristocratic Bertie and Willoughby families.
