It is only forty years after the first ground was turned, and the scale of development is breathtaking. Churches abound: on the left rises the tower of St Thomas's, to the right that of the Methodists. The smaller building with the domed roof is the Carnegie Library, and the building beyond is now part of the College of Further Education.
