No motorised traffic and a few bicycles denote a leisurely age. More fine buildings are in evidence in this parade of quality shops. Bickerstaffe's the ironmonger's is behind the fluted lamp, and Rhodes the butcher's (with the sun blinds) is to the right. At this time, 'Round the Coast' reported that 'amidst wild sandhills a beautiful town has taken the place of a bleak, barren waste'.

Old Fire Station St Andrews Road North
When I was a child in the 1960's, my granddad would take my brother and myself to the old Fire Station. He had just retired after 30 years in the Fire Service. His name was Albert Newns. He had been Station Officer there then ADO at Firebrigade HQ at Fulwood. We used to have a look at the engines and were allowed in them. Ballet School
I trotted through and round the square in 1955 as I lived at 28 Park Road just off Talbot Square. I attended a ballet school (hidden on the right hand side of shown picture) and if memory served me correctly ballet school was called Stewart School of Dance

It Is A Timeless Scene
My experiences of the St Anne's Pier Entrance took place in 1955. After sailing my boat on the nearby model boat pond, I was given a few coppers to spend in the games arcade which was just inside the entrance. Most involved flicking a ball bearing around a vertical loop, hoping to see the ball fall into a hole which would result in a cascade of pennies falling into the little tray. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
