St Ives, Bridge Street c.1955

More about this scene
After a serious fire in 1975, the 18th-century building with the black cross facing us at the end of Bridge Street, formerly the Crown Inn, was demolished; this caused a major outcry. It was the last important old building to be removed in the town. Woolworth's now occupies the site, and has kept the cross on its facade.
