Happy School Days With The Ropers

A Memory of St Neots.

Brilliant to see this little piece of St Neots History

Ropers were well known for their small shop in Cambridge Street mid 60s, As local kids from the council estates we waited in anticipation of the new building being completed from behind the screens.

This photo is of the Coronet Restaurant upstairs above Ropers Cafe.

The door next to the bar was where Fred used to go for his afternoon nap, several of us had part time jobs at Ropers and built good friendships.

I personally have loads of respect and gratitude to the Ropers. As a young lad they guided me in the right direction for an excellent career.Thank you Jackie and Andrew.

RIP: Fred,Gladys, their old mum........ plus Vera and Bert Dowler, and the old wash up girl Violet Wilson who was also instrumental with life skills.

On another note Fred and Gladys had their new Bungalow built on what was the site of Manor Farm, where another school chum lived in the Manor /Farm house, not too sure if it was correct but he showed me a door in the house that apparently had a tunnel to either Priory Hill or Priory Lane, now that's a task for you lot to clarify.
