Staithes, Church Street 1925

More about this scene
As with several other fishing villages along the Yorkshire coast, Staithes clings alpine-like to the sides of steep cliffs and ravines. Though the old man could be delivering milk, yokes were also used for carrying all manner of things up the steep streets. During the 19th century, Staithes was a fishing port of some standing, being a centre for cod, haddock and mackerel.
