This intriguing historical fishing village lies between two prominent headlands, Penny Nab and Cowbar Nab. Walk around Staithes, and the past is along every alleyway. Red-tiled cottages are squeezed into narrow passages that rise dramatically from seashore to cliff top. A young James Cook started his working life here as an apprentice grocer, before the lure of the sea took him around the world on his voyages of discovery. Coastal Yorkshire

Holiday Camp
As a young child my school in Manchester took us to the camp. It was amazing, as my mum was a teacher at the school, I went on many occasions. I would love to go back but as I don't drive and now an oap I guess it would be difficult. My Dad's Memories
My father’s family owned fishing cobbler boats in Staithes and its where my father grew up. He used to tell me stories how he used to bunk school and go out with his Uncle Jack in the fishing boats. The fishing families held an annual picnic, not on land, but on the sea where all the cobbler boats would link up making a big platform. As a young boy it was his job to be the beer runner when the fishermen were mending their nets (this was all in the 1920s). Great stories.

My Best Memories
My grandmother`s sister owned one of the houses which are built almost in to the cliff as you walk down the hill and along a little walk way to the right. In those days it was used a guest house. My father would take his holidays towards the end of the summer and we had the house to ourselves. Hi to all, for the past twenty-two years my wife Sheila and myself have brought our family to Staithes on holiday twice a year, around February and October time. All our photos are printed as optimised versions of their originals, this process can take anything from 15 minutes to several hours. This ensures that the product you get shows the true quality that Frith photos are renowned for.

Genealogy & Research Images

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
