More about this scene
This narrow passage leading down to St Mary's Street was home in 1900 to a fishmonger and hairdresser, as well as the Hole in the Wall Inn, previously the Coach and Horses (although it is hard to imagine being able to reach it in one). The jetties in the foreground are still there, hanging out over the lane so that the upper storeys of the two buildings almost meet.
