Hi Bob my memories of Stanhope is very similar to yours I started my time there in summer of 1969 till 1974 just after you left in 68 ok was in Crawley house a lot of things I seen in there canning knuckled on the head punched in the gut kicked dead legged marched to Mr Haley for the cane and could be lay it on always seemed to put the can on the same welts that he put there in first place till the skin cracked and bled blood ran down your leg hurt like hell it did then cold shower afterwards .but the place was run !ike military polishing the wood floors with bees wax .I don't know how you coped in Stanhope but I got taught how to handle myself by taking no crap had many a fight in the yard were all the house lined up for head counts . Even if the lad won at least it was sorted out no more was said got my respect that way got no bother after that was it the same for you Bob ?10 year old at the time some good times not all bad the camping in Whitby the baths at consett the walks were good ? Bolyhope was the killer though ached for days after that 10 mile hike.the thing that gets me though Bob is this so called sexual abuse getting bummed haha never seen it to me it's full of shit yes everyone took a kicking or two off the house masters but to say they made us suck cock or fucked in the arse no way every house talked in the morning and brake times or on the sports field but nothing was ever said to me . My opinion is the abuse never happened and I was in Stanhope just shy of five years.? Mr Melody Mr Haley Donny madderson knocker Harding and Mr Johnson Crawley house master all were tough in there punishment of all of use but to put them in paedophile category bit hard to destroy them in that way was a hard place but what happened to me was just how it was in the 60s and 70s corporal punishment was the done thing for misbehaving our parents used to batter us even the local Bobby gave me a kicking just how it was then days .
