More about this scene
A 'porte cochere' , overhanging the pavement, served two functions in coaching days: those in the coach could alight and keep dry, while travellers on top and the luggage could enter the building by a high level door. Coach days have gone, but the hotel is still busy. Here on the porte cochere, with the best view of the High Street, is the renowned Houghton Fishing Club's meeting room.
