More about this scene
The intended junction for the Staffs & Worcs Canal and the River Severn was to have been at Bewdley, but the locals objected. Four miles downstream, where the Stour joined the Severn, stood the sleepy hamlet of Lower Mitton. Soon the place was a hive of activity: basins, warehouses and boatyards were built, and Stourport-on-Severn was born.
