More about this scene
The Sudbury and Ballingdon Cemetery was opened in 1859 in Newton Road. The two chapels, Anglican and Nonconformist, are linked by an archway, and stand in the centre of the cemetery. The taller stone in the foreground is for George Grimwood, who died in 1865; he was one of the founders of the Sudbury firm of builders and architects. In 1900 William Ranson was Clerk to the Burial Board, and James Sparrow was the curator who lived in the lodge gate.
