More about this scene
The statue was designed by Sir Bertram Mackennal, who also designed the 1908 Olympic medals and the coinage of George V in 1910. The statue is eight-and-a-half feet high on a Portland stone plinth. It was unveiled by Princess Louise, Duchess of Argyll, daughter of Queen Victoria, on 10 June 1913. In the background are Brown & Jay, chemists and oil and colourmen, and the Town Hall.
