More about this scene
Situated on the corner of York Road and Girling Street, St John's was designed by Josiah Gunton of London and opened in April 1902. It is built of red brick, Bath stone and flint in a mixture of Gothic styles – there are Early English lancets in the nave and transepts and a Perpendicular west window. This could be a Victorian suburban Anglican church. The minister in 1904 was the Rev William Brown, who lived in York Road.
