Besides his hunting exploits and the breeding of the terrier that bears his name, the Victorian Rector of Swimbridge, the Rev Jack Russell, was highly regarded by his parishioners, perhaps not least for the brevity of his sermons, for Sunday was hunting day and his horse was saddled in the churchyard.
