More about this scene
The pulpit here at St James was used for forty six years in the 19th century by Jack Russell, the famous hunting parson. His sermons were by Victorian standards blessedly brief, on account of his hunting horse usually being saddled and waiting in the churchyard. His biggest claim to fame, however, is the breeding of the terrier named after him and which also gives the name of the local pub.
