More about this scene
Here is another broach spire, 102ft tall, after the style of St Peter's, Barnstaple. The church, St James, is packed with interest. The stone pulpit is 15th century, as is the beautiful rood screen, restored about 1880. Between 1832 and 1880, the curate here was John (Jack) Russell. He was the hunting parson who developed a new breed of terrier which was named after him.
