More about this scene
The View South-East F W Woolworth & Co Ltd stands on the left next to James Walker, jeweller. The first Woolworth's store was built on the site of Swindon's first permanent cinema, the County Electric Pavilion, in the 1920s. The store was greatly extended from its original size in the mid 1930s by taking over the site of the adjacent Artillery Arms public house. To the right we can see the elegant Edwardian frontage of William McIlroy's store.
