More about this scene

A mile or so south of Quorn, the camera looks north towards the weir, with Hawcliff Hill and Buddon Wood to the left. Behind the camera is the Leicester- Nottingham railway line, with Swithland village, better known for its slate quarries, sited at the south end of the water. The reservoir was created in 1896; it is one of four 19th-century artificial lakes in Charnwood Forest - the others are Thornton (1854), Cropston (1870) and Blackbrook (1906), all man-made but now an attractive, almost natural part of the country.
